LUKE CICILIANO: The divorce process can be very complicated. And it's very important that a client understands that there are many steps to that process. And there are rules that have to be followed in every step. And if those rules and those steps aren't followed, it can result in a client possibly not getting what they want out of their case, which is why it's important for a client to have an attorney who understands how complicated the process is and what those steps are.

If someone comes to me and says I'm considering a divorce, I let them know what all their options are going to be in a divorce case. I let them know what the possibilities are going to be in terms of child custody, in terms of how property's going to be divided, if there are going to be any kind of support issues.

Once people have found out what their options are in a divorce case, that's when they're able to make up their mind and decide whether or not they want to proceed with the divorce at that time.

Very early on, we do things to help our clients have a normal life while their divorce case is going forward. For example, we might file a motion to get our client temporary financial support. Or we might file a motion to get a temporary custody order in place so that way people aren't living a frantic life and they have a sense of order and a sense of stability while the case is going forward.
