A Nevada divorce can be completed quickly if the parties agree on all issues. If the parties are in complete agreement, then they may file for what is known as an "uncontested divorce." An uncontested divorce is completed by filing a document known as a "Joint Petition." The Joint Petition is the document in which the parties state how all issues are to be resolved. Once the Joint Petition is filed, a copy of the Joint Petition is delivered to the presiding Judge's chambers along with a copy of the final Divorce Decree. Assuming that all paperwork is in proper order, the Judge will typically sign the final Decree within a week.

It must be stressed that an uncontested divorce can only be filed if the parties are in agreement on all issues. If the parties disagree, as to any portion of the divorce, then the process must proceed contested.

To file for an uncontested divorce the parties must still satisfy Nevada's residency requirements.
